Frequently Asked Questions About EFT Tapping
Understanding EFT Tapping
What is EFT Tapping?
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a gentle yet powerful healing method that combines tapping on specific acupressure points with focused emotional awareness. By stimulating these points while acknowledging challenging emotions, EFT helps balance your body’s energy system, sending calming signals to your brain and allowing emotional processing to occur naturally.
How Does EFT Tapping Actually Work?
- EFT works through a unique combination of:
- Physical stimulation of meridian points used in traditional Chinese medicine
- Verbal acknowledgment of thoughts, feelings, and experiences causing distress
- This powerful pairing helps calm your nervous system by:
- Reducing the emotional intensity of difficult memories or triggers
- Soothing the amygdala (your brain’s alarm system)
- Creating new neural pathways for emotional regulation
- Releasing energy blockages that may contribute to emotional or physical discomfort
Is EFT Scientifically Proven?
- Research on EFT continues to grow, with compelling evidence for its effectiveness:
- Clinical studies show significant reductions in cortisol (stress hormone) levels
- Research demonstrates effectiveness for anxiety, PTSD, and phobias
- Brain imaging shows measurable changes in neural activity after EFT sessions
- The technique is increasingly recognized in mainstream healthcare setting
“The evidence for EFT’s effectiveness for anxiety, depression, and PTSD is so strong that it can be recommended as a first-line intervention for these conditions.” — Clinical EFT Handbook
Getting Started with EFT
Do I Need Special Training to Do EFT?
- While basic tapping can be learned by anyone:
- Self-tapping is accessible through online resources
- Working with a certified practitioner like myself offers personalized guidance
- Professional support is strongly recommended for trauma work
- Learning proper technique initially helps maximize effectiveness
How Long Does EFT Take to Work?
- Results vary based on individual circumstances and the issues being addressed:
- Many experience noticeable emotional shifts during their first session
- Simple issues might resolve in 1-3 sessions
- Complex or long-standing issues typically require consistent work over time
- Regular practice enhances and maintains results
- In my practice, I’ve found that clients often experience immediate relief from acute emotional distress, while deeper patterns may take 4-6 sessions to shift significantly.
Can EFT Help If I’m Skeptical?
Absolutely! Many of my most successful clients began as skeptics. EFT works whether you believe in it or not—the neurobiological effects occur regardless of your expectations. I simply ask that you approach with an open mind and willingness to try something new.
Practical Concerns
Is EFT Safe?
- EFT is considered extremely safe when properly applied:
- Non-invasive with no pharmaceutical side effects
- Compatible with most medical and psychological treatments
- Gentle enough for children and sensitive individuals
- Self-regulation techniques are built into the process
- As with any therapeutic approach, I ensure appropriate screening and referrals when needed.
How Often Should I Practice EFT?
- For optimal results:
- For acute issues: 5-10 minutes as needed throughout the day
- For ongoing challenges: 10-15 minutes daily
- For deep transformation: Regular sessions with a practitioner plus home practice
- Remember: consistency matters more than duration. Even a few minutes of focused tapping daily can yield significant benefits over time.
Can EFT Replace Traditional Therapy?
- EFT works best as part of an integrated approach to wellbeing:
- Complements traditional therapy beautifully
- Provides emotional self-regulation tools between therapy sessions
- May reduce need for medication in some cases (always consult your healthcare provider)
- Addresses both emotional and physical aspects of distress
Personal and Emotional Aspects
What If I Feel Emotional During Tapping?
- Emotional release is a natural, healthy part of the healing process:
- Tears, laughter, or physical sensations may emerge, yawning being the most common
- These responses indicate energy shifting and healing occurring
- All emotions are welcomed and honored in our sessions
- You remain in control and can pause at any time
- My role is to create a safe space for whatever arises, guiding you through the process with compassion and expertise.
Can EFT Help If I Don’t Know the Root of My Problem?
- Yes! EFT is remarkably effective even when the origins of your feelings aren’t clear:
- We can work with present symptoms and emotions
- The body often reveals what the conscious mind doesn’t recognize
- EFT can gently uncover connections and patterns
- “Borrowing benefits” allows healing even when addressing peripheral issues
- Many clients are surprised by the insights and connections that emerge naturally through the tapping process.

How Do I Know If EFT is Right for Me?
- Consider exploring EFT if you:
- Want effective tools for managing stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm
- Are curious about the mind-body connection
- Haven’t found complete relief through conventional approaches alone
- Are ready to take an active role in your healing journey
- Feel drawn to holistic, gentle approaches to emotional wellbeing
What Happens in a First Session?
- Your initial 60-minute session includes:
- A thorough intake to understand your unique situation and goals
- Education about EFT and how it works with your nervous system
- Guided tapping experience tailored to your specific needs
- Identification of core patterns and emotional themes
- Practical tools and techniques to use between sessions
- Development of a personalised healing plan
Do You Offer Online Sessions?
- Yes! I provide:
- Secure video sessions with the same effectiveness as in-person work
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate different time zones and lifestyles
- Options for recorded sessions (with permission) for your personal review
Do You Offer In-person Sessions?
The sessions I offer are primarily run online using Zoom. This allows for clients to choose a space they feel comfortable and safe in when in session, which I feel is paramount for clients. The flexibility of online sessions also makes it a more convenient method of therapy to fit around work and school hours for clients. That said, I do offer group tapping EFT sessions in person. Please feel free to contact me for further information.
Do You Offer Group Sessions?
Yes! Unlike One-to-one sessions, I find group work most effective when carried out in person. There is a “ shared” benefit for all participants tapping together and therefore offers a more powerful experience for all. Please feel free to contact me to discuss further.
So How Much Does It Cost?
One-to-one sessions start from £90 for 60 minutes.
While every person’s journey is unique, I recommend beginning with a minimum of 3 sessions. This gives us time to build trust, for you to feel safe and heard, and for your body and mind to gently adjust to this healing modality.
EFT often works quickly to bring calm and clarity, and many people find significant relief within just a few sessions. However, healing is rarely linear — as we begin to release what’s on the surface, deeper layers often emerge. Many clients choose to continue beyond three sessions to further explore, understand, and heal from past experiences in a supportive space.
Discounts are available for package bookings. Please get in touch to find out more.
Group work (in-person) is tailored based on the needs of each group and size. Please get in touch to learn more or register interest.
